The Lighting Practice is excited to share that the Lit Brothers Building is featured in mondo*arc’s April issue.  Michael Barber and Emad Hasan were interviewed for the article. They highlight project details and their design process. TLP teamed with Stantec on this exciting project, providing lighting design for the historic façade. The Lighting Practice is excited to see Lit Brothers illuminated.

To bring the Victorian architecture to life, TLP used a RGBW LED lighting system and DMX controls providing color-changing capabilities. Remote control access allows the building owners, Brickstone Realty, to adjust the façade’s lighting for holidays and major events.  TLP pre-programed the system giving the building owners the option to feature static and dynamic shows.

The City of Philadelphia Historic Commission and Brickstone Realty both played an enormous role in transforming The Lit Brothers Building’s image while maintaining its historic integrity.

We are honored to have had the opportunity to collaborate on this project and would not have been able to do it without our team of lighting designers: Michael Barber (Principal), Emad Hasan (Associate), Johnathan Cook (Lighting Designer), and Chris Hallenbeck (Lighting Designer).

Paying respect to its Victorian architecture and contributing to the revitalization of the city. The Lighting Practice’s illumination of the Lit Brothers Building in Philadelphia, USA uses the latest in LED technology to bathe the grand façade in a variety of vibrant hues.

Composed of approximately 33 buildings, the Lit Brothers building is the only complete block of commercial Victorian architecture in Philadelphia, USA and as a consequence was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Philadelphia-based lighting design studio The Lighting Practice (TLP) was tasked with highlighting the façade and other historical features, specifically the classical arch windows.

TLP’s design embraces the elegance of the architecture and uses an LED lighting system with colour-changing capability to highlight the fine details in the façade.

“Approximately four years ago we were approached by the architect, an existing client of ours, who was leading the digital media and public improvement design effort, to photograph the building and assist in the development of façade lighting renderings,’’ said Michael Barber, Principal, TLP.
