Germany’s LICHT Magazine Praises AHS Chambers Center’s “Feel-Good” Lighting Design

Atlantic Health System Chambers Center

The Atlantic Health System Chambers Center for Well Being was recently featured in an article in LICHT, Germany’s premier lighting magazine.

As part of the team responsible for the interior fit-out for the holistic health center, The Lighting Practice’s Michael Barber, Ryan Conover, and Lillian Knoerzer designed a lighting system that reinforces an environment of healing and relaxation. In the article, the authors describe the design as “… a harmonious lighting concept that intentionally refrains from any spectacular illumination” (translated from German to English). In addition to creating a peaceful atmosphere throughout the facility, the lighting system beautifully accents and compliments the center’s interior finishes and features. The result, the LICHT authors note, “… is a balanced lighting that radiates peace and harmony, creating a warm welcome atmosphere where guests and patients feel comfortable.”

The design project for the 20,000-square-foot center included exam rooms, treatment areas, a cardiac rehab gym, a multipurpose room used for seminars and yoga classes, and the Luvo Café.

The Chambers Center for Wellbeing in New Jersey – a balanced lighting concept strengthens vitality in a healing environment

(Excerpt Translated from German to English)

The Atlantic Health System (AHS) is a non-profit healthcare organization headquartered in New Jersey. It is not the disease and its treatment that is important, but the preservation of health through targeted prevention. In 2014 the AHS opened a new holistic health center, the Chambers Center for Wellbeing. On an area of just over 2000 square meters, an exclusive center for integrative medicine and holistic healing was developed. A team of doctors, therapists, and nutrition consultants offer their expertise in rehabilitation and prevention, lectures, seminars and workshops on the healthy lifestyle. A harmonious lighting concept from “The Lighting Practice” from Philadelphia is sensitive to the holistic health concept and creates a relaxing feel-good atmosphere in every area.

The aim of the new Chambers Center for Wellbeing is to meet the holistic approach of health under one roof and to strengthen the individual path to physical, spiritual and mental health by means of different healing methods and solutions. A competent physician, therapist and consultant team sees the patients in their entirety and, after detailed diagnosis, develops a well-coordinated interplay of physical activity, relaxation, and a healthy diet. Facial and full body treatments, acupuncture, yoga, tai chi, meditation, massages, sports and cooking classes complete the offer. The holistic therapy concept is intended to help people to achieve physical and psychological balance and vitality.

The award-winning New York architectural and design office, The Rockwell Group, was responsible for interior design. The Lighting Practice also collaborated with Philadelphia architecture firm, Francis Cauffman, to execute the design. A lot of wood and natural materials determine the high-quality interior and create a warm ambiance. Elegant and at the same time restrained treatment and seminar rooms complement the varied range of rehabilitation and prevention. “The Lighting Practice” from Philadelphia equipped the state-of-the-art clinical complex with a balanced lighting concept, which always creates the right, harmonious light mood in the different areas.
