Meet The Lighting Practice’s Newest New York & Philadelphia Lighting Designers

A talented, energetic, and driven design team is the cornerstone of The Lighting Practice’s continued success as a leading lighting design firm. TLP is proud to welcome four new members to help carry on its legacy of extraordinary work.

Jay L. Martin – Lighting Designer II
Jay previously worked as a lighting and special effects coordinator for Disney Cruise Line, where he was responsible for maintaining all the lighting and special effects equipment within the highly specified Walt Disney Theatre. Jay then worked as a lighting design engineer for a British lighting firm, where he designed amenity lighting for retail complexes, ports and airports, and sports environments. Since joining TLP, Jay has worked on a variety of projects including public spaces and corporate, hospitality, and retail environments.

Bárbara U. Maranhão – Lighting Designer I
Bárbara began her career in architecture and interior design in Brazil, where she ran her own office. After working for several other interior design firms in Brazil and Ireland, she moved to the United States. While working for an interiors firm in New Jersey, Bárbara realized her passion for lighting. She then honed her lighting design skills working for a Pennsylvania lighting design firm. Since joining TLP, Bárbara has worked on retail, healthcare, and corporate projects.  She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Xingying Peng – Lighting Designer I
Xingying became a full-time designer in the New York City office after previously interning with TLP in Philadelphia. Before earning her Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design, Xingying worked as a theatrical lighting designer in Asia, taking part in the production of several theater festivals. She also worked as a lighting fellow at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. Since joining TLP, Xingying’s project experience has grown to include corporate and academic environments and exterior façades.

Sean P. Cassidy – Designer
Sean joined TLP after graduating from Thomas Jefferson University. While interning with a local lighting designer, he found a passion for using light as an artistic medium. Since joining TLP, Sean’s experience has grown to include hospitality and healthcare environments.
