Lighting Designer II

Jay Martin joined The Lighting Practice in 2019. He previously worked as a lighting and special effects coordinator for Disney Cruise Line. In that role, Jay was responsible for maintaining all the lighting and special effects equipment within the highly specified Walt Disney Theatre, including the intelligent moving light fixtures. Jay then worked as a lighting design engineer for a British lighting firm, where he designed amenity lighting for retail complexes, ports and airports, and sports environments ranging from university pitches to stadium lighting for large-scale sporting events. Since joining TLP, Jay has worked on a variety of projects including public spaces and hospitality, corporate and retail environments.

What’s your favorite aspect of light?
Its ability to provoke emotions without the subject realizing it is the light evoking the emotion.

Who are your heroes and why?
My father. He taught me all the important things in life. Punctuality, hard work, compassion and consideration, and my mother. She taught me all the things my father didn’t.

What is your personal mission statement?
Provide a world for the next generation that our generation would want to live in.
