Lighting Designer I
Veronica Steen joined The Lighting Practice’s New York office in January 2020. She previously worked as a lighting designer at a Los Angeles lighting firm, where she gained project experience ranging from design development through construction administration. Veronica’s pursuit of lighting as a career began in high school when her father, who also works in the industry, inspired her interest in architectural lighting design. Her degree in interior design gives her a unique approach to projects by having a deep understanding of space planning and the materiality of diverse interior spaces. Since joining TLP, Veronica’s experience has grown to include corporate environments and facades. When she is not at TLP, Veronica enjoys art, travel, fitness, and exploring different areas of New York City, particularly its many museums.
What’s your favorite aspect of light?
My favorite aspect of light is how much it impacts a space, and how it can really make or break the look and feel of architecture.
What is your favorite computer program?
My favorite computer program is probably Photoshop because I am able to be completely creative and make my vision come to life. I am not the best hand sketcher, so having the ability to convey my ideas through a computer software is great.
What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume alone?
I’ve traveled to over 20 countries on 3 different continents throughout my lifetime. Traveling is my favorite hobby and something I gain so much from!
If you could only have one mode of transportation for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could use one mode of transportation for the rest of my life I would choose walking. One of my favorite parts of living in NYC is being able to walk everywhere. It’s the perfect way to decompress and enjoy the scenery!
