A Total (Partial) Eclipse of the Sun!

2017 Solar Eclipse in Philadelphia PA

One of the many things I love about The Lighting Practice is our culture and my coworkers’ sense of humor and interest in all things science!

Today at 1:45 PM our team packed up our hoagies, homemade cookies (thank you Pomme), random assortment of blankets, and special eye protection (thank you Jered) and made our way outside to view the solar eclipse.  We picnic-ed along Independence Mall joining large groups of our fellow Philadelphians and visiting tourists.  At 2:45 PM, despite the thick cloud cover, we were able to view the eclipse at its peak and experience the wonder of nature.  This was the first solar eclipse to pass over and be visible to the entire United States in 99 years.  Our next opportunity to view a similar eclipse will not occur until 2024.   Of course, our laid back viewing party wasn’t complete without a brief rendition of Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart.
