The Lighting Practice Helps Transform Ritz-Carlton Cleveland

Few hotels pull off a luxurious, upscale ambiance while still maintaining an accessible and residential feel for their guests. But the Ritz-Carlton Cleveland is breaking the mold with an 18-month transformation unveiled this month.

The renovation spanned all public spaces, including the main exterior façade, porte-cochere, entry lobby, main level six lobby, reception, bar and lounge, three-meal restaurant, ballroom, pre-function, meeting rooms, boardroom, and the fitness center.

The hotel’s new decorative light fixtures were designed by interior designer EDG. The Lighting Practice worked with EDG to select the appropriate lamping. Maintaining warmer color temperatures for the rich gold tones in the interior was important. Dimmable LED lamps provide the desired color temperature for a warm and inviting feel. TLP led the design of the decorative fixtures for the exterior sconces and porte-cochere fins. While most of the lighting is LED, some decorative fixtures use incandescent for their superior dimming.

The opening of the newly renovated spaces coincides with the opening of TURN Bar + Kitchen, which the Ritz-Carlton calls “… a new take on the all-day/all-evening restaurant including dazzling interiors, a high energy bar scene, nighttime entertainment and the best of Cleveland neighborhood cuisine.” The restaurant’s design, which was inspired by fire, light, mirrors and shining metals, touts open spaces, sleek leather and fabric seating, and a dramatically illuminated onyx bar. The article featured below is a first look at some of the unique and innovative style showcased in TURN Bar + Kitchen.

The goal of the design team was to create a fresh, modern and sophisticated look for the Ritz-Carlton brand.  TLP is proud to be a part of this project that has reimagined guests’ hotel experience.

First look: Ritz-Carlton Turn Bar + Kitchen opens as part of hotel makeover

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Some bars and restaurants roll out the whole “industrial chic” thing.  Others repurpose found objects to create rustic and, dare I say, vintage vibes.

The pitches are similar. So are the designs. So are the bars.

But the Ritz-Carlton isn’t a regular-Joe joint or a craft beer bar – and those facts posed a very different set of challenges when the upscale hotel set out to roll out a new bar and restaurant on the sixth floor of its Tower City Centre location.

“Luxurious… intimately residential”

“We wanted to create a place that is luxurious, but isn’t condescending,” says Yael Ron, general manager of the Ritz-Carlton. “A place where you can get dressed up and look nice, but also feels intimately residential.”
