Verdant Temple: University Landscape Master Plan

Philadelphia, PA

Temple University’s student population has grown and evolved over the years, and their campus needed to do the same. In addition to creating a more recognizable campus identity, Temple wanted to utilize light to promote safety and nighttime security in the urban environment of Philadelphia.

The Lighting Practice began the master planning process with an on-site evaluation of the existing exterior lighting through daytime photographs and nighttime footcandle readings. The design team then worked with the University to prepare detailed lighting design guidelines coordinated with the overall landscape master plan. The first phase of the plan was implemented in 2015 with the redesign of Wachman Plaza and a segment of Liacouras Walk.
