Matthew Hanson
Lighting Designer II
Matthew Hanson joined The Lighting Practice in 2026 as a Lighting Designer II. With a background in carpentry, fine arts, and architecture, he brings a multidisciplinary perspective to lighting design, viewing light as both an artistic medium and an architectural element that shapes how people experience space. Before joining TLP, Matt worked at another architectural lighting design firm, contributing to academic, corporate, multifamily residential, hospitality, exterior, and aviation projects. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts and a Master of Architecture from CUNY City College of New York. Outside of work, Matt enjoys sports, visiting art museums, learning about watches, spending time with family and friends, and coaching competitive swimming.

My parents and family. They have been the best support!
What motivates and inspires you?
Growth, meaningful relationships & the pursuit of mastery.
What/ where is your ideal vacation?
Somewhere in the countryside in Japan. Slowing down, surrounded by quiet landscapes.
