Al Borden Recognized For Helping Philadelphia’s Skyline Glow Pink

Lights for the cure

Twelve years ago Joanne Calabria, Vice President of Public Affairs at CBS 3, came up with the idea of promoting Breast Cancer Awareness and creating a beacon of hope that all could see.  Her idea was to light up buildings throughout the City of Philadelphia  in bright pink, but she knew she could not do it on her own.  Joanne reached out to Alfred Borden, Founder of The Lighting Practice, and together they worked with local building owners to help them find the best way to turn their building facades pink and help the skyline glow pink.

Last Tuesday October 1st CBS 3 and Susan G. Komen kicked off the 12th Annual Lights for the Cure Campaign in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  To mark the beginning of this inspiring month, CBS 3 hosted a gathering in their studio to spread Susan G. Komen’s message, to celebrate the Philadelphia Community’s involvement, and to honor the individuals whose efforts made Lights for the Cure a possibility.

Joanne Calabria specifically recognized Al’s efforts and gave him a token of her, CBS 3, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s appreciation.

We are very proud that one of The Lighting Practice’s Principals has been so involved with this fantastic organization and annual event.  His below quote reflects our appreciation as a firm and community for all Susan G. Komen and CBS 3’s Lights for the Cure Campaign has and will accomplish.

When I first began doing this work with the Susan G. Komen Foundation I used to tell people I was helping the “Pink Ladies.”  It was a light-hearted way to take some of the seriousness off the important work that we have all been doing in this campaign.  Thank you for this recognition, but there is so much more to do.  Thank you.
