The Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corp. held a dedication for the anticipated, William Penn Foundation-funded “gateway” project at Broad and McKean streets otherwise known as the gateway to East Passyunk Avenue.

Guests braved the rain to hear Sam Sherman, executive director of Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corp., and Philadelphia City Councilman Mark Squilla talk about how the newly renovated and uniquely lighted plaza will be a welcoming beacon to the street, which was listed in Food and Wine magazine’s list of the 10 Best Foodie Streets in 2013.

Al Borden of The Lighting Practice helped created the LED lighting that beams onto the plaza and adjoining buildings in bright colors and shapes, while Bryan Hanes, of Studio Bryan Hanes created the design of the wedge shaped plaza, which now has benches and a table for visitors. A reception was held at Palladino’s restaurant after the ceremony.
