The Lighting Practice is delighted to announce that the Landmark Filinvest in Alabang, Philippines has won Interior Design Magazine’s 2018 Best of the Year award in the category of Large Retail.
“The Landmark Corporation’s market chain has revolutionized the supermarket experience for shoppers in the Philippines,” said The Lighting Practice’s Ryan Conover, who designed the lighting system with Michael Barber. “After bringing the newest location to life under the leadership of Hugh A. Boyd Architects, we’re proud to see the project recognized by this prestigious publication.”
The Lighting Practice has been part of the design team for more than ten Landmark projects since 2007. The 108,000-SF location at the Filinvest Shopping Complex includes five levels of department stores above, two levels of parking garage below, and an adjacent food hall that seats 1,050 people.
The design of the state-of-the-art supermarket offers a hospitable and intimate shopping experience for visitors. To visually compensate for no natural light within the building, The Lighting Practice exclusively used 3000K LED products to highlight the architecture, provide wayfinding, and create a sense of openness.
Recessed, pendant-mounted, and track-mounted adjustable accents highlight produce, meats, and groceries while giving the owner the flexibility to re-aim fixtures. Linear pendants accent the floating wood ceilings while providing functional light in aisles. Cove lighting draws attention to the faceted walls and mosaics throughout the space. “The layering of these lighting techniques created a cohesive lighting design,” Conover said.
Interior Design Magazine held its 13th annual Best of Year awards in New York City on November 30, 2018. Winners were announced at the River Pavilion, Javits Center in a ceremony hosted by Editor-in-Chief Cindy Allen. This year, there were 2,000 entries and 586 finalists in 133 design categories.
The Lighting Practice thanks Interior Design Magazine for this recognition and congratulates the rest of the 2018 winners.
