The Lighting Practice (TLP) is excited to welcome our Summer 2026 interns, Madeline Boylan and Gianna Gilfert! Through the internship program, Madeline and Gianna will work alongside TLP’s lighting designers to gain hands-on experience with real-world projects, expand their technical knowledge, and learn more about the day-to-day process of architectural lighting design.
Madeline Boylan is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design at Drexel University. Outside of the classroom, she serves as the Graphics Coordinator for the Drexel Interiors Group (DIG). Maddie was drawn to lighting design because of its ability to shape mood, perception, and functionality within interior spaces. She is excited to gain hands-on experience working alongside professionals and exploring how lighting can enhance the built environment. Her favorite aspect of light is its ability to highlight textures, colors, and architectural details. She enjoys Philadelphia’s creative energy, especially the city’s blend of design, art, and academic communities. In her free time, Maddie enjoys exploring the city and observing architecture, interiors, and lighting in different environments.
Gianna Gilfert is currently pursuing an integrated Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering (MAE/BAE) at Pennsylvania State University. She is also an active student member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). Gianna is passionate about the impact lighting can have on both emotional and physical wellbeing. She is especially interested in how lighting within healthcare environments has evolved beyond general illumination to support healing and human experience. After previously interning with electrical engineers, Gianna was excited to explore the lighting design side of the industry and gain experience from a different perspective. This summer, she looks forward to exploring Philadelphia through new coffee shops, thrifting, and spending time outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys discovering new places, thrifting, and painting album covers.
We are thrilled to have Madeline and Gianna join The Lighting Practice this summer and look forward to seeing their creativity and perspectives grow throughout the internship!
