In this Article

arc magazine, a leading international architectural lighting publication, celebrated The Lighting Practice’s 30th anniversary, team, and portfolio of work in their April/May 2020 issue. The article conveys TLP’s journey from an idea to a large collaborative team through nine project spotlights and a timeline gatefold highlighting projects and milestones from the last 30 years.

In addition to beautiful project photos, arc’s feature includes insight from the firm founder, Al Borden, FIALD, CLD, MIES, and the firm’s President, Helen Diemer, FIALD, MIES, LEED AP, as they reflect on The Lighting Practice’s success. The firm has grown to a team of 35 talented individuals and working across two offices in Philadelphia and New York City.

Al attributes TLP’s success to “mutual respect and a shared experience. As designers, we resolve challenges and achieve success by staying open and connected to our clients.”

“Lighting design does not exist for the benefit of lighting designers,” Helen explains. “It exists because we have clients to serve, and they have needs and goals of their own to serve. Together, what we do as a team and as a community is much more powerful and impactful than what any single individual can do.”
