The April Sampson Cancer Center, an outpatient facility located in Lincoln, Nebraska, is thoughtfully designed to foster a deep connection with nature. Inspired by its surroundings, the prairie-style architecture accentuates horizontal lines with a soothing palette of wood and stone finishes. Abundant daylight pours through a two-story curtain wall overlooking a serene pond and the rolling Nebraska hills.
The building’s exterior is accented by a dramatic overhang, illuminated with surface-mounted uplight luminaires to enhance its architectural presence. Landscape lighting softly brightens pathways through the meadow, reinforcing the center’s mission of promoting wellness through a seamless connection to the surrounding environment. On the second floor, infusion bays offer tranquil views of the prairie, with sconces placed above seating areas to provide gentle, focused lighting during patient care. Perimeter slot lighting highlights the natural materials and creates a warm, calming atmosphere throughout the space.
