Bethesda Row, a vibrant mixed-use development, recently underwent a revitalization aimed at breathing new life into its public spaces. The project encompassed a diverse array of environments, including streetscapes, plazas, facades, and parklets—each with its own character yet contributing to a unified, cohesive experience. A key objective was to reimagine the existing site as a dynamic destination for shoppers, visitors, and local residents alike.
Lighting played a pivotal role in establishing a clear design hierarchy that enhanced wayfinding and supported both the architectural and landscape elements. Achieving balanced illumination across the varied spaces required thoughtful coordination, as each area called for different fixture types, spacing strategies, and orientations. The lighting design emphasized vertical illumination including highlighting trees, facades, planters, and canopies to create visual landmarks and promote spatial coherence.
One of the most striking lighting features is the custom catenary ring lights suspended along Bethesda Lane. This signature element posed unique technical and coordination challenges, requiring close collaboration with the design team and manufacturer. TLP was tasked with developing a distinctive lighting solution that integrated seamlessly with the existing building infrastructure. The result is a visually engaging feature that functions both as a wayfinding tool and as a beacon, drawing people into the heart of the space.
