Rachel Lee MIES, Jr. Associate IALD, IES EP

Lighting Designer I

Rachel Lee joined The Lighting Practice in 2023 as a Lighting Designer I after working as an Intern during the summer of 2022. She received her Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree at The Pennsylvania State University in 2023 and was the vice president of Penn State’s IES chapter in 2020. Rachel’s interest in lighting design was first sparked by the psychological effect that lighting can have on people in any given space. She has mainly worked on conceptual packages and design documentation for various project types but most commonly corporate, academic, and exterior façade and site.

What’s your favorite aspect of light?
It affects how people experience a space and in turn affects how they feel and remember that memory.

What is your favorite thing about working New York?
There is always something interesting to do and there are a plethora of food and drink spots to hit up. I won’t get to try them all in my lifetime.

If you had everyone over to your house for dinner, what would you prepare?
Mac and cheese bar (choose your toppings), build your own burger, lemonade bar (will it be fruity or will it turn into a cocktail?), and tiramisu flavored macarons.

What/where is your ideal vacation?
Wandering Osaka, Japan with no responsibilities besides finding the best food spot.
