The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art, located in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, occupies a historic 19th-century mill building, with modern steel and glass additions. The Wyeth & Sharp galleries, long in need of renovation, were reimagined with a focus on neutral finishes and versatile spaces. Given the museum’s ever-changing exhibits, it was essential to incorporate adaptable lighting that could accommodate a variety of displays. Bright, glare-free illumination was strategically implemented throughout the space to enhance the artwork while fostering a serene atmosphere for visitors.
The renovation included replacing the existing lighting with advanced LED track luminaires, featuring both directional accent and wallwash fixtures. The design process involved a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, as the linear track system also integrated mechanical, fire protection, and other building systems. The track system was carefully engineered to conceal air diffusers and sprinklers, maintaining a clean, unobstructed ceiling aesthetic. By strategically highlighting different elements, visitors are encouraged to explore and discover new details with each visit to the museum.
