Powel SLAMS (K-8)

This 87,000-SF K-8 school co-locates two premier public schools, Powel Elementary and the Science Leadership Academy Middle School (SLAMS), on the Drexel University Campus. The new building, designed to support 720 students, is filled with an abundance of daylight during school hours. The Lighting Practice worked with the design team to provide lighting design services for the exterior site and building exterior as well as interior spaces such as classrooms, laboratory and lap prep, gymnasium, and shared spaces between the two schools. The lighting design balances the natural daylight with electric light creating a bright and welcoming environment. TLP implemented the same lighting solutions throughout the two schools to reinforce the connection between them.
