CHOP Roberts Center For Pediatric Research

CHOP’s new Schuylkill Avenue campus is located across the river from the main campus. The Lighting Practice designed the interior, exterior, and facade lighting for phase 1, which included a 21-story tower supporting CHOP’s clinical research and administrative offices, surrounding site, and pedestrian bridge. The unifying goal of the lighting was to promote safety and visually connect the existing residential neighborhood with CHOP’s main campus across the river in a comfortable unobtrusive manner. The dynamic, color-changing crown lighting creates a unique nighttime presence that grounds this institution in its new home along the riverfront.
At ground level, light is carefully focused on paths and integrated indirectly into the plazas to limit impact to adjacent residents while providing a place for both staff and the community to enjoy.
