The new 241,000-SF addition, The Cooperman Family Pavilion, to Saint Barnabas Medical Center includes 114 private rooms, an expanded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), centralized registration area, outpatient diagnostic services, same-day surgery suite, and a 400-vehicle parking garage. The Lighting Practice was responsible for all lighting and control system design. Natural daylight and electric light work together to promote well-being and wayfinding. Programmable fixtures create cascading light effects in the lobby. Undulating, wave-like forms in public areas provide a calming visual break. Tunable white LEDs supplement natural daylight in the NICU to support newborns’ circadian rhythm. The soothing, safe addition provides innovative and welcoming care.
