University of Central Florida Library

Orlando, FL

The University of Central Florida Library underwent a renovation to better support the evolving needs of students, introducing new study areas, technology stations, and the Digital Exploration Center (DEC). The DEC offers a comprehensive suite of resources, including immersive technologies, a podcast studio, production workshops, collaboration spaces, and high-performance computing. The lighting design creates a cohesive, welcoming environment that balances continuity with innovation, complementing the library’s existing architecture while establishing a distinct visual identity within the Technology Studios.

In open seating areas, new fixtures were selected to complement the existing library lighting, maintaining visual consistency throughout the renovated spaces. Within the Technology Studios, the lighting takes a more expressive approach, responding to the distinctive geometry and flexible functions of the environment.

Designed to support both active work and presentation modes, the Technology Studios feature a flexible lighting system with low-end dimming capabilities, carefully selected fixture finishes, and geometric forms that reinforce the architectural character while adding visual interest.

Together, these lighting strategies accentuate the architecture and enhances the student experience, supporting the library’s evolution into a destination for learning, collaboration, and technology-driven exploration.
