The Lighting Practice is excited to share that Inova Health Center – Oakville is featured on the August cover of Healthcare Design magazine. The project was also recognized with an Honorable Mention in the Healthcare Design Showcase, celebrating excellence in healthcare facility design.

Part of Inova Health System’s multi-campus initiative, Inova Health Center – Oakville is a 100,000-square-foot outpatient medical facility that includes a comprehensive emergency department, imaging services, a primary care center with ambulatory surgery, and medical offices. The lighting design reinforces the architectural vision by highlighting the building’s natural materials while creating a welcoming, patient-centered environment. Wood, a defining architectural feature, played a central role in the design process, requiring detailed studies to understand how it would interact with both daylight and electric light. The result is a warm, cohesive lighting strategy that enhances the material palette throughout the facility. The lower-level waiting and amenity spaces are illuminated to evoke the comfort and warmth of hospitality environments, while the upper levels prioritize privacy and support clinical functions through carefully tailored lighting solutions. A 3000K color temperature, an uncommon choice for healthcare facilities, was intentionally selected to create a more inviting, less institutional atmosphere for patients, families, and staff.

We are honored to see this project recognized by Healthcare Design Magazine and congratulate the entire project team on this achievement!
