Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is the largest hospital campus in Northern Virginia and the flagship hospital of Inova Health System. The project involves the renovation of the 63,954 GSF Inova Fairfax Hospital Emergency Room (ER), the EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing) unit, which provides emergency mental healthcare, a full renovation of an existing section of the building, and the addition of a new vehicular drop-off zone. These improvements aim to enhance patient flow, optimize operational efficiency, and create a more welcoming and intuitive environment for patients and their families.
The emergency room at Inova Fairfax Hospital is designed to provide a family-friendly, calming environment, featuring dedicated entrances and separate reception areas to help reduce anxiety. The design team ensured that the lighting not only enhances the healing environment but also aligns with the hospital’s commitment to occupant wellness and sustainable design principles. By integrating lighting solutions that foster a soothing atmosphere—particularly in the emergency and EmPATH units—TLP has created spaces that reduce stress and promote a sense of safety and comfort. This project is part of a broader initiative to reshape healthcare facilities across Northern Virginia, establishing a new physical identity while enhancing operational efficiency and patient experience standards for the Inova Health System.
