Ocean Prime Sarasota is a premier steak and seafood house located on a coveted waterfront site at The Quay. Designed to elevate the coastal dining experience, drawing directly from the surrounding environment, with hues of deep blue and shimmering gold evoking the sea, sunsets, and golden hour. The client’s vision for the space prioritized a dual lighting strategy: delivering functional illumination for task and back-of-house areas, while creating a layered, atmospheric lighting experience that enhances architectural features.

Inspired by the beach, rippling waves, and the sensation of being underwater, the lighting design helps replicate the natural surroundings in abstract and immersive ways. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a flowing wave-textured fabric wall, softly lit with vertical indirect cove lighting. Ascending the grand stair, a striking backlit translucent wall depicts an underwater scene of fish swimming in a school formation.

In the main dining room, a sculptural amorphic pop-up ceiling takes center stage, finished in custom materials that echo the patterns left by receding waves in the sand. Vertical lighting fixtures hang at varying heights above the dining tables, creating visual rhythm and intimacy throughout the space. Gold-finished lighting fixtures and golden architectural accents subtly reinforce the restaurant’s sunset-inspired ambiance, bringing warmth and a sense of luxury to the overall experience.
